Teaching

A selection of some of my courses! I teach introductory and upper-division courses on a variety of topics along the intersections of Digital Humanities, Media and Communication, Cultural Studies, and American History.

I align myself with feminist, critical digital pedagogies and focus on project-based learning in my courses, integrating digital technologies into all my classes.

As an educator I aim to unite the practice of critical humanistic inquiry with technical proficiencies, so students feel empowered as knowledge producers and content creators.

Introduction to Digital Humanities

In this introductory course, we explore the field of Digital Humanities, charting its development and detailing how digital technologies have changed the way in which we analyze and produce culture. We use a series of digital tools to produce our own projects engaging in digital publishing, data visualization, digital archiving, and other methods as digital humanities practitioners.

Democracy Past, Present, and Future

We take an interdisciplinary approach to the study of democracy globally. In this course, we ask, what is democracy, who is it for, and is it enough? We unite theory with history and chart the way in which definitions of citizenship, freedom, and belonging have been (re)defined across historical periods.

Introduction to Game Studies

In this course, we historicize the technological development of video games as a medium and delve into the field of Game Studies, alongside other critical theories, to understand how scholars, journalists, developers, and critics have studied and created video games. We play games, critique games, theorize about games, and pitch our own game.

Introduction to Ethnic Studies

Here, we cover the field of Ethnic Studies with an emphasis on the articulation of race and ethnicity in American history. We take an interdisciplinary approach, examining a range of topics from colonization, to the US Civil Rights movement, to globalization, and contemporary immigration regimes.
